Wine Tour: Featherstone

Our last stop on Friday was Featherstone, who are nearly sold out of the current vintage in almost everything. Only a few wines were available for tasting that I hadn't already had the chance to try:

  • 2002 Gewurztraminer VQA ($16): Lots of classic Gewurztraminer flavours (lychee and rose petals especially). Light body and tastes sweeter than it really is (sugar code 0).
  • 2003 Cabernet Franc VQA ($15): Sour cherry on the nose. Very acidic body: too much for me, but ideal according to Brendan.
  • 2003 Estate Bottled Riesling VQA ($12): Kerosene on the nose (if you're not into Riesling, you wouldn't know that this is considered a good thing). This is an off-dry wine with a certain oiliness in the mouth: not the laser-like flavour intensity of a dry wine.

Unfortunately, the highlight for both of us on our last visit was their amazing Gamay, which is sold out. The new vintage won't be released until early Spring, so we're already planning another expedition to the winery for then.
