What's the schlockiest 70's song?

Wizbang asks "what's your choice for schlockiest 70's song? The Pina Colada Song? Afternoon Delight? The Night Chicago Died? Muskrat Love?"

A few choice cuts from the comment thread:

What about "She's Having My Baby," by Paul Anka?

brown eyes blue (blew?)
you light up my life.
torn between two lovers

"Midnight at the Oasis."

"Feelings"

As several commenters found, the whole decade is jam-packed full of candidate songs. I'd have gone with "Seasons in the Sun" as the worst, but reading the comments is inducing faint nausea: "Muskrat Love", "Sometimes when we touch", "Tie a Yellow Ribbon", and (ugh!) "Do ya think I'm sexy". I think I need to go schedule a bit of brain surgery to get those tunes out of my memories. What a skid-mark of a decade, musically speaking.

"What a skid-mark of a decade, musically speaking." Hunh? The Eagles. Led Zepplin. Steely Dan. Three bands just off the top of my head. The birth of three unique types of music (Disco, Heavy Metal/Acid Rock, Punk) that have continued to influence musicians ever since. There's crap in every decade, every era. Slagging 'the '70's' is like slagging 'wine'. Posted by: Damian at November 24, 2005 04:31 PM
Hunh? The Eagles. Led Zepplin. Steely Dan. Three bands just off the top of my head. Believe it or not, only Led Zep was mentioned in the thread. Incredible, isn't it? The birth of three unique types of music (Disco, Heavy Metal/Acid Rock, Punk) that have continued to influence musicians ever since. Well, Disco was more of an afterbirth, but okay, you have a point here. There's crap in every decade, every era. But some eras are incredibly over-productive of crap. And that decade is the all-time leader, to date. Slagging 'the '70's' is like slagging 'wine'. Not that THAT stops people . . . Posted by: Nicholas at November 24, 2005 05:00 PM
OK, you've officially jumped the shark when you're fisking comments, my friend. But back to the issue at hand: I'd argue the 80's were far worse than any other decade of the past century for craptastic music. Other than U2, The Police / Sting solo, Genesis and its various solo spin-offs, what was memorable about the 80's? Billy frickin' Idol? Cyndi Lauper? Duran *vomit* Duran? The Bleached Pedophile? I think you might have a bit of a blind spot here. Posted by: Damian at November 25, 2005 09:34 AM
