A cautionary video
On a slightly less sombre note, another post at Castle Argghhh! included this disturbing sleeping and driving video.
Yikes!

A disturbing video I must agree… Reminds me of something I stumbled upon while doing a photo search in Google last November. Check out the link. I must WARN you- this is beyond “disturbing”. It will serve well as an example to all young drivers who underestimate the effects of alcohol.

It had a profound effect on me- even though I don’t possess a driver’s license… I couldn’t get the images out of my head for days- still haunts me now, actually… Finding this site brought on one of the first times when I really realized the fragility of human life and how one’s entire existence could be changed in an instant. This example really drives the point home: nothing is certain. Our quality of life and our very place on earth are constantly hanging in the balance. It’s an eye-opener for sure- how we guarantee the sustainability our “normal” lives by way of practical thinking and responsible risk-taking… we (or at least I) seem to dream up reasons why things like this won’t happen- because we’re good people or we do good things- or we exercise, eat healthy meals, or don’t drink to excess. Whatever. When I saw this I felt very “unsafe” all of a sudden. Just being here is a risk, and when your number comes up, the results are senseless- reasonless.
I guess my only consolation is to respect the risk and the danger and live on anyway- hoping for the best.
Although the pictures are truly shocking, I feel in some way that everyone should see them just once- if for no other reason than to understand that nothing is guaranteed. We have far less control over our existence than we often think we do.
By the way Nick- you look good in that picture (top left). It would make a good brand icon for firearms ownership- or something. You know- a good natured, friendly guy out having a good time doing what he likes to do. Where are you in this pic- and what kind of weapon is that?

Thanks. I thought so, too, which is rare for me. There's a reason you won't find very many pictures of me out there.

It was taken last week, at a public shooting range in Florida. The weapon is a .357 magnum (Smith & Wesson, I believe).
